What does a Verruca removal treatment do?
A verruca, or plantar wart is a little, bumpy, wart-like growth on the sole of the foot with tiny blood vessels in the centre. It is caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). It is generally harmless but it can sometimes be annoying causing significant discomfort, particularly when you are walking or standing on it.
Verruca treatments can rid of the plantar wart and make walking less painful as well. Other treatment methods involve freezing off or treatment with lasers or specific acids to remove a verruca. The aim is to safely remove the wart, ease slight discomfort it causes, and prevent its spread.

Treatment for verrucas means the removal of the surface of the infected skin where the verruca has formed. Different treatments are available, typically with salicylic acid to encourage peeling of the skin layers, or cryotherapy in which the verruca is frozen using liquid nitrogen to destroy the cells. A chemical that dissolves the verruca is sometimes used to treat verrucas. Another option is laser removal and surgical excision where a scalpel is used to shave and remove the wart. When the infected skin is eventually shed from the treatment site, fresh skin can regrow.
The treatment is performed all in one 60 minute visit. Time taken to remove varies according to size, location, and method of removal.
A verruca removed by surgery might have to be done under local anaesthetic and a possibility that there is a scar left behind if the verruca is big or deep. However, with our treatment method the amount of scarring can vary from one treatment to another and your own healing process.
Some verrucas can be a little stubborn and come back after treatment. Self-resolve in some instances, but occasionally take multiple treatments to completely clear up.
The pain varies from the technique used and how deep the verruca wart tissue is, anyhow it could be a little painful but manageable.

The best candidate for verruca excision is a person who has an uncomfortable verruca that does not heal, pain while performing normal walking activities, or someone who is self-conscious about how the wart looks.

The verruca removal procedure is relatively safe, but some risks are involved. There is a risk of infection due to skin lesions that may develop during treatment and, therefore, diligent aftercare is essential.
Although it should be noted that scarring can occur, especially with surgical excision, depending on the healing properties of one’s skin. Also, you may notice a difference in skin tone in the area treated as well, with some areas lighter than others and some areas darker. However, these changes are temporary in nature. Some treatments including cryotherapy may be painful during the procedure and even after the procedure.
Some additional side effects are also possible; allergies may cause mild itching, more severe effects occur with the allergy to local anaesthetic or medications and it is important to make your doctor aware of these. Due to the irritation of the nerves, you will most likely experience numbness or tingling; however, this is usually temporary and will subside as the nerves recover.
Lastly, if the virus which is causing the verrucas is still present in your skin, it is probable that these wart-like lumps will recur and may need treatment more than a few times.
