What does it do?
Liposuction is one type of cosmetic surgery, its purpose is to remove fat localised areas and improve or alter body shape. Body contouring as it is commonly known addresses particular regions to gain a smoother looking proportionate body.
This can help target the areas like the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, breasts for both male and female, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.
Liposuction surgery may give you great results but remember that it is surgery and comes with risks. Recovery can involve discomfort and in rare cases lead to severe complications. So you must consider that decision seriously and discuss it with an experienced surgeon before having surgery.

During this technique, the surgeon injects a specific solution that contains anaesthetics into the affected areas. It reduces the possibility of bleeding and pain during the surgery so that it can be done under only local anaesthesia.
In ultrasound-assisted, ultrasound is applied to the treatment area to break down small pockets of fat so that more extensive volumes of fat can be removed. A popular subtype is Vaser liposuction, a type that offers exact sculpting of the body.

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure where specific locations on the body are sculpted, contoured and refined by recontouring them with a removal of excess fatty tissue using specialised equipment and cannulas. The first step in the procedure is preparing the treatment sites by giving local or general anaesthetic. This involves the making of a minor cut that is used to administer a solution to minimise pain while the procedure is on. When the anaesthetic works, fat is removed, then aspirated with a vacuum suction thin tube. Drainage tubes may also be inserted after the liposuction to avoid fluid buildup post-surgery. In the process, a compression garment is often worn to minimise the severity of bruising and swelling; and outcomes will still enable a maximum number of patients to ultimately appreciate their new body.
Liposuction time to complete ranges from under an hour to more than three hours. This is determined by how many zones there are to treat in the procedure.
Liposuction pain ranges from one person to the other. Most patients report a feeling of having a substantial bruise in the areas treated, this is generally mild discomfort and you should be able to minimal activities within these limits. You will probably experience less pain than you anticipated if you understand that surgery does cause some normal, but not crippling discomfort. Keep moving to reduce the pain and promote healing in the recovery process, avoid prolonged rest.
Fat after liposuction does not come back to that location where it is removed. However, the fat cells that are left in the body can grow as you gain weight. Following this procedure, you need to eat a balanced diet and maintain an active lifestyle to keep the desired results.
Swelling can persist for several months, however, so you may not see the full results of liposuction immediately. Although the majority of swelling is resolved within four weeks, results may not yet be fully visible. We recommend a compression garment for at least 4-6 weeks post procedure to help with swelling, and any soreness. This garment is a large factor in your recovery, so it may take some time for the results to show as the swelling goes down. Patience is crucial since you must give your body time to recover.

This process should be done out of self-fulfilment rather to live up to the unrealistic standards that society has instilled upon us. If you are working hard at diet and exercise, but still have areas of stubborn fat that won’t go away, liposuction may be the right answer for you.
Good candidate is an adult within 30% of target weight with firm, elastic skin, good muscle tone, healthy without severe comorbidities to allow a successful recovery. Moreover, the best outcomes from liposuction are likely for nonsmokers who come in with a positive attitude and clear goals for body contouring.
Liposuction is an invasive surgery and thus, it is important for the candidates to understand the risks involved with this procedure. When liposuction is performed appropriately, it is considered a safe procedure, but there are some risks of side effects, like bumpy skin due to irregular fat removal or imperfect skin resiliency. Seroma, or numbness from nerve injury.
In the worst case scenario, infections can take place while uncommon occurrences remain serious. If the cannula penetrates too deeply, there is also a small chance of internal damage that could require immediate surgery. Another severe consequence is fat embolism, in which fat particles enter the bloodstream and travel to the lungs or brain. Furthermore, large-volume liposuction is linked to renal and cardiovascular complications as well as possible pulmonary function limitations. Finally, lidocaine to be implemented for pain management which can cause toxicity.
