With over half a million procedures undertaken, you're in safe hands
The term 'Cheek Alteration' refers to the surgical correction of the cheeks. It most commonly refers to an operation which endeavours to sculpt and/or reshape the cheeks, soft tissue or the cheekbone itself.
Cheek Alteration is often used as a means of rebuilding concaved cheeks, helping to correct/reduce the appearance of collagen depletion, improve upon visible scarring, or as a means of reconstruction after injury. It is also an incredibly popular method of feminising the face. This is because it can be used to create a higher cheekbone and a subsequently more symmetrical, heart-shaped face.
The remarkable difference a Harley Street Skin Clinic treatment can provide
Cheek Alterations sole aim is to sculpt and reshape the cheeks - it does this by improving or augmenting the cheekbone and/or surrounding tissue. These types of procedures are loved for offering lifelong impacts to facial shape and cheekbone definition. For those that are in search of a less committal approach to cheek alteration, non-surgical means are also available. To explore methods of reshaping, defining and plumping the cheeks using injectables, be sure to read up on our Cheek Filler and Nanografting procedures!
If cheeks appear to house a lot of excess fat, surgeons may wish to make minute incisions on the outside of each cheek, whereby fat can be extracted. This allows the underlying cheekbones to appear more defined, chiseling the face dramatically around the structure beneath. This method is sometimes referred to as Buccal Fat Removal.
If you instead present the opposite concern - a lack of cheek volume and dimension - Cheek Alterations may require the use of cheek implants (also known as 'subdermal implants'). These are bespoke, often silicone moulds which are placed under the skin through an inconspicuous incision made in the mouth.
Finally, there is the bone graft method. This is where bone (taken from the lower jawbone or sometimes even the hip) is inserted into the cheeks to support and bolster their appearance from within. This is typically used only as a means of reconstruction following facial trauma, and is a considerably larger procedure to undertake.

The answer to some of the most common questions you may have
It's only natural to have questions if you are considering pursuing a treatment for the first time, and at Harley Street Skin, it's important to us that you feel confident and comfortable at every stage of your journey. To help you find the answers you need, here are a few of the more common quibbles that we find our clients frequently ask...
Cheek Alteration is unique in that it can be performed in several different ways depending on the needs of the patient. Because of this, what the procedure wil involve will largely be dictated by the patient's desired outcome.
Methods of altering the cheeks may include: removing excess fat, grafting bone, shaving down the existing bone or even introducing silicone implants to add lift and dimension.
Depending on the technique carried out, Cheek Alteration can be used to reduce sagging, lessen fat, emphasise cheekbones, or even reverse sunken or gaunt-looking faces longterm.
Our patients often find that Cheek Alteration is a fantastic, permanent alternative to having bi-annual Dermal Filler injected in this area. For youthfully chiselled and defined cheeks that really last, Cheek Alteration is just the ticket.
Surgical Cheek Alterations are permanent procedures. They will aim to rebuild the cheeks from within, and provide lifelong cosmetic improvements to the face.
Patients should note that Cheek Alterations will not do anything to prolong the effects of any Dermal Filler that is used in conjunction with treatment for additional volume, and will require top-ups every 6-9 months or so.
Surgical Cheek Alterations typically take around 1-2 hours to complete. This can take longer if you have decided to undergo combination treatment - perhaps Fat Transfer or Buccal Fat Removal. If you would like to have a more thorough breakdown of timing for your particular case, please do speak directly with your surgeon at consultation. They will be more than happy to give you more information on this!
Side effects with Cheek Alteration are predominantly superficial - such as swelling, tenderness, redness, brusing and scabbing. Some patients also experience dry mouth, temporary changes to taste, minor fluid retention and numbness in the area that - on rare occaisions - may persist longer term. Aside from this, there should be no longlasting side effects bar some minute incision marks made in an inconspicuous area!
We would advocate a recovery period of up to 2 weeks recovery from Cheek Alteration. This is, of course, subject to case and should be discussed beforehand with your practitioner. It should be noted that often patients will find talking and facial movement to be limited during your recovery period, and therfore wish to take some time away from work for this to settle.
As mentioned above, we would advocate up to 2 weeks downtime following Cheek Alteration - subject to case and/or the nature of your working role. If you are feeling unsure, we would encourage you to discuss the logistics of returning to work with your practitioner during consultation.
