What is a Breast implant removal?

Implant Removal

Why does it need to be done?

Breast implant removal surgery, also called breast explant surgery is a type of surgery involving the removal of breast implants without replacement. Patients opt for this procedure in the event of a changing mind, desire to address problems like implant rupture or capsular contracture, and health concerns that lead to pain or discomfort.

It may be performed to return comfort, or in hopes of looking more natural. Breast implant removal procedure does just that, safely and effectively removing any implants while putting the patient first based on their specific needs and well-being.

Several benefits include:

  • Restore comfort
  • Natural look
  • Better health
  • Less worry

The many types

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture happens when the capsule that forms around breast implants becomes tight and rigid, causing discomfort and an abnormal look. It might need to take out or modify the implant.

Breast Cancer Detection

A treatment related to breast cancer might necessitate implant removal. Afterwards, possibly reconstruction is an option.

Breast Implant Infection

Implant infections can happen, but they are uncommon and sometimes the only course of action is to remove them if antibiotics fail.

Breast Implant Illness (BII)

After breast augmentation surgery, some women experience an array of symptoms like fatigue, joint pain and brain fog which is commonly referred to as BII, or breast implant illness.

Implant Ruptures: Saline

If implants are ruptured, saline ones will deflate easily while silicone ones need to be checked regularly using MRIs to identify leaks.

The procedure
Seamless Implant Removal
How does it work?

The procedure is fast and relatively simple. This is done through an incision that follows the old scar which is generally located under the breast, but can also be placed around the nipple or in the armpit. The implants are carefully removed through this cut. The surgeon used stitches to close the cut with limited scarring. Also, any scar tissue that may form around the implants is removed during a procedure referred to as a capsulectomy if necessary. It assists with delivering the optimum outcomes with minimum complication.

Duration Of The Surgery
How long does the surgery take?

Breast implant removal surgery usually takes 1 to 2 hours. However when the procedure is done alongside another surgery, this may take longer.

Restore Natural Breasts
Will my breast go back to normal after the implant removal?

Yes, your skin and tissue typically go back to pre-implant state following breast implant removal procedures, additional surgery is often unnecessary.

Estored Firmness Possible
Am I able to have a breast lift following implant removal?

After having breast implants removed, a breast lift also can be an excellent way to restore previous firmness to the breasts. If needed, the surgeon will discuss with your consultation if the breast uplift should be done at the same time as removing the implants or it should be left for another session later.

Painless Recovery Ahead
Is it less painful?

Feeling some soreness or minor pain after breast implant removal surgery can last up to a week, it’s normal. Nonetheless, you will not experience any discomfort during the actual operation because anaesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable.

Am I suitable
Is Breast implant removal good for me?

You may be a candidate for breast implant removal if your implants are ruptured, asymmetrical, or painful. After any mishandling of the surgical procedure, thereafter, concerns such as deflation, folding or asymmetry could occur, these include things that frequently happen after some weight loss and also during the process of having a child. Removal surgery is often able to resolve these issues, either through breast implant replacement or through the complete removal of implants for improved balance and natural appearance.

Another reason for removal is health complications, such as an infection or displacement of the implant. Others want to feel more like themselves without implants. Should you desire to remove your implants, or if you have a concern regarding the status of your body and devices, an accredited physician can help provide solutions that will boost your confidence and spirit.

The risks
Can risks be prevented?

Removing the breast implants has some risks. The most common of these is sagging, as the breasts lose the volume that implants offer. Implants are heavy, and breasts start to sag without that natural support particularly after larger implants or if they have been in for a number of years. Depending on how big the implants are relative to the amount of skin, some women develop a bit of loose skin. A breast lift may also be considered in some cases to improve the shape.

There are also risks for complications including scarring that is visible, the chance of a loss in sensation around nipples, and even anaesthesia related risks. Even as surgeons try to keep scars to a minimum, however, scarring is all but inevitable and will take time to fade. If nerves controlling sensation in the nipple are affected during surgery, loss of sensation may occur. Anaesthesia may carry some side effects as mild as nausea or in rare events, more serious complications. It can be emotional learning to live with your new appearance, but an experienced breast surgeon will walk you through these issues and quickly bring back your confidence.
