With over half a million procedures undertaken you're in safe hands
Do you dread those warmer months when sleeveless tops seem like the only option? Do you feel far more comfortable swamping yourself in an oversized cardigan? Perhaps your summer wardrobe leaves you miserable and - actually - willing for winter to come back around?
Well - you may be surprised to hear that a whopping 3 in 4 British women do, too. That's why there are multiple treatments available to beat the bingo wing once and for all, and we're here to talk you through them.
But, first things first…
What Are They & Where Have They Come From?
We already know that 'bingo wings' are a frustrating insecurity that prevent millions of men and women from making the most of the summer weather. But what actually are they and where have they come from?
Well, bingo wings are the deposits of loose skin that hang underneath the tricep muscle of the upper arm (visible between the armpit and the elbow). These deposits are caused by the sagging/ageing of the skin, and are exacerbated by excess weight and/or having low muscle mass. Unfortunately, women tend to be more prone to putting on fat around their arms as it is an area on the body most affected by hormones and stress (along with the lower belly and thighs.
Bingo wings are most commonly caused when gravity tugs down on excess fatty tissue, stretching the skin that contains it. At this point, exercise and weight loss can improve bingo wings slightly, yet will do very little for the loose skin left in its wake. Because of this, even women who do not carry excess weight may eventually come up against the bingo wing in later years when the skin's natural elasticity begins to wane.
As we inevitably grow older, we are more likely to develop the dreaded bingo wing as gravity and loosening of the skin’s elasticity begins to take a toll on the body. Those that also have more sluggish metabolisms may also find they can become a concern.
Whether it is hormonal weight fluctuation, a resistance to hours of endless cardio, or simply the gradual march of time, there is only so much calorie-counting and arm curls that can be done before we finally admit we are powerless to the bingo wing.
Even so, no body part should be so damaging to our self esteem that it dictates the clothes that we wear. That's why we've formulated a range of treatments to get to the bottom of things permanently. Did someone say brand new, sleeveless wardrobe..?
With a wealth of treatments, designed just for you...
There are a number of treatments on offer at Harley Street Skin when it comes to eradicating bingo wings. A non-intrusive, cosmetic option would be a course of Fractora; a treatment that works by mimicking minor injury by making small punctures to the skin using microneedles. Radiofrequency energy is then driven into the cells, tricking the brain into believing it has been superficially damaged. Fractora is a wonderful means of reversing laxity in the skin, as well as dramatically improving the arm’s contour.
In cases where the bingo wing is already relatively prominent, Bodytite is an option, as it is a permanent method of simultaneously removing fat and tightening the skin. Commonly referred to as ‘Laser Lipo’, BodyTite works by using radiofrequency energy to turn fatty tissue into liquid form which is then extracted through a tiny incision using a fine cannula.
For severe bingo wings, which require skin removal, you may instead consider the Brachioplasty. During this treatment, a surgeon draws the loose skin of the arm tighter, cutting away any surplus of fat in the process. The remaining tissue is then restitched, leaving patients with smoother, tighter inner arms.
