Here at the Harley Street Skin Clinic, we’ll always treat you with compassion and understanding. That’s exactly what allows us to address (and improve) your hair loss problems with ease. Alopecia, whilst common and - contrary to popular belief - very treatable, can still be extremely distressing. This is where we come in.

Thanks to our knowledge of powerful regenerative medicine and a team of inhouse specialists, the Harley Street Skin Clinic want to help you help your body repair itself from within. With a little bit of know-how, patchy scalps and a life plagued by self-consciousness can be a thing of the past. That’s because we’re here to help you revert back to who you were before alopecia started running the show.

But first things first…

What is Alopecia?

Alopecia is one of the most common causes of hair loss

The word ‘alopecia’ is an umbrella term which emcompasses a few different patterns of hair loss - the uniting characteristic is that they are all caused by an autoimmune issue where the body’s wrongly begins attacking the hair follicles. This then causes the affected hair to fall out.

The condition’s full medical name is ‘Alopecia areata’ (AA): an affliction which causes the hair to fall out in small patches. These patches can go unnoticed, however, if they begin to connect, they can become more visible and lead to distress.

Beyond this, people may also suffer from ‘Alopecia totalis’; a condition which is characterised by hair loss that extends to the entire scalp. Some others experience what is known as Alopecia universalis: a condition which results in total hair loss all over the body - including the arms, legs, chest, face, scalp and pubic area. This is the most severe of the alopecia strands and many find that even if hair does begin to grow back, it will likely fall out once more.

Some also find that alopecia arises as a result of scar tissue forming in an area which has sustained an injury. This is referred to as 'Cicatricial alopecia.

It is important to note that not all forms of alopecia are responsive to treatment, so it is crucial to know what you are dealing with before looking at treatment plans. Noting the characteristics of your particular hair loss will help you determine the best course of action with regards to treatment.

Alopecia most commonly affects the scalp, however may sometimes impact the eyebrows, eyelashes, face or body. Most patients find the condition is slow to develop, sporadic in its recurrences, and that severity of hair loss - as well as rate of regrowth - will vary.

Unfortunately, there is no current cure for alopecia as we know it, however there are a range of treatments available to improve upon its symptoms. These treatments can do anything from encourage quicker regrowth to prevent drastic future loss...

How Can I treat Alopecia?

With a wealth of treatments, designed just for you...

As we mentioned, when it comes to alopecia, there is not necessarily one remedy that will work for everyone. Your response to a treatment can vary based on many different factors (the strand of alopecia you have, your age and the extent of your hair loss - to name a few). That’s exactly why we have formulated an array of treatments geared at improving the symptoms of alopecia - either to successfully stimulate hair regrowth or to, at the very least, offer the means to improve or successfully disguise those pesky problem areas.

While a lack of cure can be frustrating, the goals of our therapies are the next best thing; both PRP and Regenera prompt the regrowing of hair, literally getting to the root of your hair issues and discernibly improving volume and thickness.

Alternatively, alopecia sufferers also can experience incredible relief from Scalp Micropigmentation - a treatment designed to create the illusion of active hair follicles - on the scalp or the beard for example - and disguise areas where the hair is sparse or even absent.

Wherever you are on your alopecia journey, it is important to know that you can make a difference - if you only know where to begin…
