Transform your legs from bulky to beautiful
Cankles are simply thick ankles with very little definition where the calf meets the ankle. When this happens it causes the calves to retain fluid and increase in size which can make your lower legs look swollen or muscular. While not a medical term, cankles are often used to describe ankle swelling caused by inactivity, injuries, pregnancy, certain medications, and other underlying health condition. Cankles are not a medical condition, but rather is an expression used to describe the absence of a taper in the ankle area from the calf muscles.
Cankles can happen to anyone, but they are especially common in people with a family history of the condition or those who carry some excess weight. Prolonged standing or sitting and some other lifestyle factors certainly can help to provoke the swelling. Swelling is common if you sprain or strain the ankle. Injury to the ankle bone can specifically lead to osteochondral defects (OCD). Cankles are not only the result of temporary conditions such as a lack of movement or an injury or infection requiring bed rest, they can also be a serious condition and a sign of illness symptoms behind it all.
Here at the Harley Street Skin Clinic, we are experts in helping you get the body you want to achieve. Our team of specialists will help you get back on your health and aesthetics goals, whether through non-invasive procedures or more complex treatments.
Cankles might be:
When the lower leg visually looks as though one half flows out of the knee the other with no taper, it can make the lower leg look thicker-appearance wise overall.
Swelling will lead to a puffiness in the region of the ankle, even when you have been simply standing or sitting for a long period that adds up to your “cankles. ” Swollen ankles can cause pain, affect your foot movement and stability when you walk, and further restrict your mobility.
It is more solid or bulky because of nothing dropping, fat cell deposits under the skin and retention of fluid makes your lower legs feel tight.
Discomfort associated with the leg, usually aggravated by prolonged standing or physical activity of some form.
If the swelling on your ankles doesn’t reduce, or if you notice that there is no proper definition at the level of the calf and ankle, this is actually a sign of necrosis whose normal home remedies are not efficient enough to resolve it.
As we are one of the best in treating cankles at Harley Street Skin Clinic. When the above solutions do not help with lifestyle changes or self-care, or when inflated and rigid in texture, it is important to see a doctor.
Using a personalized approach, our medical team will then care for your condition by performing a thorough consultation to determine the best options available to reduce swelling and contour of your legs,or address the medical problems underlying.
You may also benefit from an expert if your cankles are causing you discomfort, affecting the way you walk or exercise or if you suspect they may be linked to a medical issue, such as poor circulation or fluid retention. Allow, Harley Street Skin Clinic to help you through our non-invasive treatments to surgical solutions that will help you on the path of recovery and get those slim ankles back!
The appearance of cankles is due, in part, to genetics. There are many factors that can cause varicose veins, some of the most typical triggers are fluid retention, obesity, pregnancy and inactivity (prolonged periods either standing or sitting). Swelling in the lower legs and ankles may result from poor circulation, a sedentary lifestyle, or from medical conditions such as lymphedema or heart disease.
However, genetics does come into play with cankles and some people are genetically predisposed to developing them despite what the scale says. Other factors which may influence the condition are diet high in sodium, causing excess water retention sometimes, and hormonal changes in pregnancy.
Cankles can cause pain and swelling in the lower legs, 1 decade of poor mobility. In some case it might lead to more serious health condition or problems like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or lymphedema if the cause is due to poor circulation, or fluid retention. In addition, cankles may play a role in decreased self-esteem or body image particularly when the legs themselves are an esthetic concern.
When left untreated, the cankles associated with an underlying medical situation (e.g., heart or kidney disease) may further deteriorate the health conditions. Early intervention is important in both maintaining aesthetics and mitigating risks, be they health concern potential medical or simply fashion-related.
It can lead to chronic irritation in the feet which will affect your daily activities and may even affect someone’s ability to walk.
Ankle swelling can be very uncomfortable or painful after standing or walking even for short distances.
Continued swelling can restrict movement and impede you in regards to athletics or working out.
In the worst cases, you can have stretch-marks in the skin around it or even skin discoloration affecting your self-image and just look.
Overweight creates fluid in the lower body and pressure on your legs pushes towards cankles. Instead, concentrate on a healthy diet and exercise regularly to keep your weight under control.
When resting, increase blood flow to the lower extremities (walking, swimming); Also can reduce that cankles with legs up and less sitting, standing at the same time.
The more you drink water, the better it is for your body to maintain fluid balance that helps alleviate swollen feet and legs.
Getting enough water also helps remove sodium from your body by reducing excess sodium flowing through your veins leading to bloating. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses per day, to keep well hydrated and reduce the instance of cankles.
Eating too much salt can also cause water retention and swelling in your arms and legs. To avoid cankles, eat less foods rich in sodium and choose fresher ingredients with a lower salt content.
Exercising regularly can promote good circulation and decrease the likelihood of developing leg swelling.
Walking improves blood circulation and helps prevent pockets of fluid buildup in the thighs and legs. Exercising to form your leg muscles and get better circulation which reduces the chances of getting cankles.
The greater time you spend on a chair, the more likely you will have poor blood flow and broad lower legs. Have frequent breaks where you stand up, stretch and move around to improve circulation and reduce cankles.
A balanced diet that contains vital nutrients can support general health and manage factors leading to the formation of cankles.
A diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains combined with maintaining a healthy weight reduces fluid retention. Eating more foods that are rich in potassium, such as bananas and spinach, can help to offset the effects of the sodium and reduce swelling in your legs.
Alcohol is another fluid that causes dehydration, although initially you pee a lot then get bloated afterwards. Maintaining sensible drinking habits and having a glass of water with alcohol is good for not becoming bloated, in addition to that habit you can maintain the health of your legs.
Good posture can help to reduce the strain on your legs and keep you from the formation of cankles.
Sitting or standing with good posture spreads your weight evenly and reduces strain on the legs. Sit with your feet on the floor and try not to cross your legs; use ergonomic furniture to maintain the correct posture.
For stronger leg muscles and to promote better circulation, do easy leg exercises including ankle rotations and calf raises. By performing such exercises regularly, you can minimize the hormonal impact of pooled fluids and as a result stave away cankles.
