Vitamin D3 Stops Hair Loss but Causes Insomnia

Hello everyone. For a long time, I've been losing hair, there's very little left on my head, the doctor told me to get a D3 test, I have a deficiency and was told to take initially 10 drops of Aquadetrim a day, for a month, and then 5 drops a day for two months. As soon as I started taking D3, my hair stopped falling out, BUT I have terrible insomnia!!! I've tried D3 from different manufacturers, and Detrimax, and for children, and four drops a day instead of 10, but I still can't sleep, I was prescribed 2 magnesium tablets and one alprazolam tablet along with d3 when I told the doctor I can't sleep, IT DOESN'T HELP at all, I can't close my eyes, I feel very tired, but I can't sleep, if it goes on like this I will just fall and won't get up, I won't be able to work. If I don't take it, my hair falls out terribly again, it's not for the faint-hearted, if I don't take it I'll be left without hair, but if I do, I sleep at most 2 hours a day....what to do, I have no idea...maybe someone else had the same situation, how did you solve it? Please help with advice, maybe I should take something instead of D3...but nothing else helps me, I've tried everything for two years.

Aquadetrim is prescribed, ONE drop in a spoonful of water. I used to take it like that, it's a child's dose, but it was prescribed to me too... Until I gave up this dubious pleasure πŸ˜‚. I "work" as a night watchman, and I'm sick of itβ€”- I don't sleep, and that's it!!! I've read up, and not only children don't sleep from it, adults too! Down with it! We're drinking cod liver oil.

Try to check your digestive system, perhaps you're simply not absorbing what you're drinking. I had chronic fatigue, I was also prescribed vitamin D, took Evalar's effervescent D3 2000 IU, quickly replenished the deficiency and I started feeling much more energetic.

The same thing happens to me. I take Vitamin D and that's it, I can't sleep at night, or rather I want to sleep and I fall asleep, but after 5 minutes I open my eyes, there's some sort of anxiety and I can't fall asleep for about 30 minutes. And this happens about 10 times a night. My brain wants to sleep, but my body feels like it's on some sort of stimulant. I take it early in the morning, the dose is small, I've tried different brands, the result is always the same and no one can explain why this is happening.

Good day! Do you really have good sleep from taking D3 before bed? I also have terrible insomnia if I drink it early in the morning. I read your comment, I want to try in the evening, but I'm afraid, what if I can't sleep at all. If I drink in the morning, at least somehow I fall asleep at 4. Can you advise, is it worth trying to drink in the evening?

I wonder how the OP is doing with sleep and hair. I stumbled upon this topic while searching for information about vitamin D and insomnia. I've also had a mishap with this, only even more unfortunate, in my opinion. For 7 years now, I've been suffering from a puzzling and torturous insomnia: 3-4 nights I sleep normally, then 1-2 days completely without sleep. It doesn't seem so terrible from the outside, but it's very exhausting, after 1-2 sleepless nights the condition is terrible - both physically and externally. A couple of times I didn't sleep for three days - that state was pure torture. And it's not about nerves. Even when there's no stress, this terrible cycle works like clockwork. I've seen all sorts of specialists, except a psychiatrist. I feel he'll be next: the endocrinologist expressed confidence that my insomnia is due to a vitamin D deficiency... The trouble is, I've already tried taking it before and the insomnia was even worse. What's my point? Just that the OP of this topic is right. Synthesised Vitamin D clearly has a negative impact on sleep. I agree that not everyone has this side effect, but it definitely exists. What a pity, such a pity.

Author, how are you doing with vitamin D and insomnia? Have you figured anything out? I've been taking vitamin D3 (Aquadetrim) for many years and everything was fine. But after childbirth something happened, first I started experiencing side effects in the form of severe bone and muscle pain, but I immediately realised it was from the Aquadetrim (and this side effect is mentioned in the instructions) so I stopped. Then I started taking other supplements with vitamin D and I had terrible insomnia, but I thought it was because of my small child and extreme fatigue and my sleep was disrupted. Only after 4 years did I accidentally find out that when I ran out of vitamin D and I forgot to buy it, I started to sleep. 4 years of insomnia because of this!!! I feel terrible. And now I don't know what to do... according to the blood test I have a deficiency, doctors insist on taking it, there are diseases that it positively affects. I've tried a bunch of different brands, dosages. Even from 1 drop I have insomnia. And even from cod liver, which contains vitamin D3, I also can't sleep. ☹️

You're not the only one, I also see a connection between insomnia and Vitamin D3. I took it for a long time and slept poorly, then when I went on holiday I didn't take it with me and slept well. Coming home, I thought I'd been in the sun enough so I wouldn't take it and I slept well, but after a month I took one tablet and immediately lost sleep. 😟

Hello! I'm in the exact same situation, started taking D3, I lie awake for three hours at night, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep, only after 3 hours of torment do I fall asleep, in the morning I can't wake up, on weekends I can sleep until lunchtime because of this powerless state at night. I still think there is a dependency, as I'm taking D3 based on indications, and as soon as I started, I began having problems with sleep.

I also suffered from insomnia due to Aquadetrim, initially I couldn't understand its cause as I had always slept well before, but after a two-week course of these drops, I could only sleep a maximum of 2 hours a day, it was sheer hell.... Apparently, these drops don't suit everyone!

I've been suffering from insomnia because of it too. Today, I only managed to fall asleep at 7 in the morning. The dosage is 5000 IU. My husband takes it as well and experiences the same thing - restless sleep, only sleeping about 5 hours a day. As soon as we stop taking it, everything goes back to normal. I was taking it concurrently with iron, and started to experience a noise in my ears, something like a running car engine, such a low vibration. No one can hear it except me. I stopped the iron, but the sleep problems and noise in my ears continued. Now I've stopped the vitamin D and will see how it goes. But the sleep issue is definitely from the vitamin D. As for what's causing the noise in my ears, I haven't a clue.

I've actually found Omega 3+D3 from Evalar, by the way, its daily dose of vitamin D3 is 2000 IU, it will help to replenish the deficiency, there will be no problems with insomnia, and together they will also strengthen the body during viral infections.

Why do you believe that hair falls out from vitamin D, utter nonsense, I know many with a vitamin deficiency but their hair is in place and by the way, everyone's hair falls out, up to 100 strands a day is normal, or have you gone bald already? Then the problem is deeper but not in vitamin D..

The same thing! A long time ago, relatives from the north brought many jars of this liver, it's very beneficial in general, but I completely lost sleep, and for a very long time I couldn't understand what was the matter, as I wasn't taking any artificial vitamins or medicines, and I only ate a small piece of liver for breakfast. After this incident, I took one 1000 mcg vitamin D tablet and, without closing my eyes, suffered all night. And my baby didn't sleep for days and screamed loudly from just one drop of Aquadetrim a day, prescribed for rickets prevention. He only calmed down when this vitamin was completely cancelled, damn it.

You shouldn't drink it before bed, only in the first half of the day. Try reducing the dosage, but generally, adults shouldn't have such a reaction that they can't sleep at all. I take vitamin D3, a maximum of 2000 IU in capsules from Evalar, the dosage is high, it gives me energy, but by the evening I still get tired and fall asleep. In children, hyperactivity can start on vitamin D3, it usually goes away with a reduction in dosage.

I can suggest that for the absorption of vitamin D3, magnesium is required in sufficient quantity. If there is a deficiency of this micronutrient (and many people do have it), then the intake of vitamin D3 intensifies it and leads to insomnia. It's necessary to take additional magnesium in an absorbable form. 400 mg is the minimum required dosage, possibly more is needed.
