The Smart-Xide laser is a versatile fractional CO2 laser that has had FDA clearance for over eight years for the treatment of skin texture and quality.
It helps to improve the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation and fine lines. It also helps to shrink pores and improve skin laxity.
It works by shooting small beams of laser onto the skin at energy levels that do not burn the skin, but transmit energy to the deeper tissues in a fractional pattern. This means that there is untreated skin between the dots of treated skin.
This allows for very little, if any downtime, and our patients normally leave with make up on, and ready to return to their normal lives.
The energy delivered to the dermis stimulates the cells to multiply and produce collagen. There is also repair of sun damaged skin.
The skin looks tighter, younger, smoother, and develops a healthy glow.
The procedure is not painful, and can be carried out without the need for anaesthesia, simple skin cooling is sufficient, and the treatment can take as littles as 15 minutes to carry out. There is a sensation of heat, which settles quickly.
For those who are very sensitive, topical anaesthesia can be applied first.
There is no down time with the Smart-Xide Cool laser protocols, however, people with very sensitive skin may get some mild flushing of the skin, which can be covered with make up.
Initial treatment program of 3-4 treatments two weeks apart, then followed by one treatment every 3 to 4 months to maintain the youthful look, and ‘PAUSE’ the ageing process.
£350 per treatment
Is Laser a substitute for plastic surgery?
Absolutely not. Cool Laser treatments are designed to do very specific things – decrease pore size, smooth the skin and decrease the appearance of fine lines and areas of hyperpigmentation. Laser treatment may result in mild skin tightening due to the collagen stimulation. Of course, this is not a substitute for a facelift. if this is necessary you will be referred to a skilled and trusted colleague for assessment for facelift surgery.
What can I expect during my treatment?
After your initial consultation we will recommend a specialized set of topical products that we will ask you to use for one to two weeks before the procedure. These products prepare and strengthen your skin for your Cool Laser procedure, significantly minimizing the post procedure downtime and swelling. Depending on your medical history, you may require a prescription of medications to take just before your treatment. Before your treatment you will be given oral medication to help with discomfort and apply topical numbing cream. During the procedure we will use cold compress on the skin to keep you comfortable. After the procedure you will continue on a specific programme of topical treatments and oral medications, where necessary, that will make your recovery as speedy as possible.
What is the difference between Smart-Xide Cool Laser treatment and a chemical peel?
Fractional Laser treatments work differently from chemical peels in that only portions of the skin are disrupted during the procedure. A chemical peel affects all of the skin down to a certain depth. Because it leaves parts of the skin undamaged, Fractional Laser can penetrate deeper and therefore have a more dramatic effect on skin quality and texture than most superficial chemical peels.
